Farm Wife Devotions: Who Do You Take It To?

Who do you go to when you are angry or hurt?

Do you turn to a friend? Co-worker? Family member? God? It seems like God is always the last place we go to when we are in trouble.

Why is that? What is it that makes us rely on something or someone outside of Him to remedy it, when He is the one we should be turning to the whole time?!

Hannah, a godly woman in the Old Testament, is an excellent example of taking our cares to the One who is all-powerful and all-knowing.

1 Samuel 1:10 "In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly."

Hannah was in a very depressed state. She loved her husband and yet she could not conceive a child for him. If that wasn’t enough, she had another woman who was also her husband’s wife taunting her because she wasn’t able to have children.

Talk about rough!!! That situation makes circumstances that aren't going well or how we wanted seem so small.

So what does Hannah do with all of this hurt, anger, frustration, and pain?? She prays and weeps bitterly. She pours it all out to God.

Sometimes I too, find myself just getting more and more frustrated, upset and angry at life's situations. Instead of turning to God for the comfort and for a sounding board, I tend to take it out on those around me. I don't intend to do this, but unfortunately, it happens. Regretfully, it has also caused me to lose friendships and relationships.

Do you ever find yourself in that situation too?

This verse and Hannah's story is the soft reminder that is needed! When we find ourselves getting more and more frustrated, angry, or hurt by something someone has said, we need to turn it over to God instead of using our mouths to say (or fingers to type) something in search of support from someone else. We need to turn it over to Him and weep bitterly.

FWD: Who Do You Take It To?

Father, Help us to become more like Hannah and learn to rely on you for all of our frustration and hurt. Remind us that You are in the storm along with us. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
