Farm Wife Devotions: God's Thoughts
"I don't understand why God is doing this to me. Why would He put me through this, when I have already dealt with so much this year?"
That is what came across the screen of my phone via Facebook messenger as I was talking to a friend of mine, who was dealing with her favorite sow going down. She was so devastated. My heart instantly broke for her as I read this. I remember thinking the same thing when I was walking through some tough times.
That's when this verse from Isaiah came to mind. My pastor had touched on this verse one Sunday and it had stuck with me and been a comfort when things that were not pleasant came up.
Why did God let my youngest sister lose her baby? Why does He allow children to suffer? Why are there mothers out there who do not care for and love their children like they should? There are so many “Whys?” to life.
Reality is this...
We do not always understand God’s thoughts. His plans are so much greater than ours. When we are hurting and it seems like God isn't doing anything to fix it, it is easy to lose sight of that. God does not live or work on our timeline. Time to Him is so different from our experience. He sees beyond our circumstances to the end result and does not get distracted by what is going on right now.
Turn your focus to this...
God’s plan or His resolution for our world is greater than we could imagine!
Lord, You know the things I do not and you can see things that I cannot. Help me to become responsive to Your prompting to see the bigger picture. Help these wonderful ladies to be able to see it as well, even when the waves are crashing against them. Help them hold onto that assurance that although they do not understand Your will, that You are still there. Be with them until we all meet again next week for our next devotion.
Today’s Farm Wife Devotion was written and shared with us by Mallory Dougherty a fellow rural sister in agriculture! Thank you so much Mallory for sharing your heart with us!

Mallory Dougherty grew up moving around Kansas as her family worked for a few different ranches in the western side of the state. Her grandparents raise cattle and do custom haying. She grew up on the rodeo and cattle showing circuits. She recently married in February 2016. She and her husband have a 5 year old son and a little girl on the way. They live in Montana, where her husband works for a local ranch. They have every intention to start their own herd of registered and showing cattle. Mallory has been in the military for 10 years now, working with the Chinook helicopters. Her faith has been her rock throughout the years. Without it she would not be where she is. She hopes to provide inspiration and guidance to her fellow sisters in Christ, by sharing the things God has laid on her heart!
